This is an experiment. Ever since
Hobbyboss put 1/700 submarines on the market for fairly affordable prices, I
had thought about making a diorama of another kind. I have never seen a sub
diorama in 1/700 (or 1/350) performing an emergency surface. So this will be
my attempt in doing so. I would have loved to look at other models for
reference or ideas as to how the different water effects can be produced. As
of right now, I still have no idea how to depict all the water spray in a
realistic way. Luckily the subs are fairly cheap, so in case it doesn't work
out, there won't be too much lost except for some time.
Here the final result. I used
tissue and peeled off one of the layers and tore it up and attached it to
the hull to depict the water/spray. In my mind the surface could look
similar to the pictures that I used as a reference. The end result is of
course not quite what I had hoped for, but it could have been worse I
suppose.
The biggest problem was the
rippling of the tissue when it dried. Also the waterspray underneath the bow
also should probably be a lot finer, but I ran out of ideas so I just
used cotton wool.
Maybe, when or if I come across
a method which could give better results - or someone who also built
something similar and would like to share his method - then I might try
again.
Conclusion: Experiment didn't
come out as good or as bad as expected. |
